A Note from our PTO President
Dear Administration, Teachers, Staff and Parents:
As the 2011-2012 school year begins, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the Springville Schools. The purpose of the PTO is to support the faculty, staff, parents, and most especially our students in Springville. Over the years, the PTO has become one of the strongest voices in the educational process that directly supports our children and schools.
In order to be successful, we know that the support and involvement of the parents of our students, the faculty and staff at the Springville Schools, as well as the business leaders in our community will be of utmost importance. Your first opportunity to show your support will be to become a member of the Springville PTO for the 2011/2012 school year. If you have already done so, we say “Thank You!” If you have not, please consider joining the PTO. The membership fee is only $15.00 per family. This year, our membership goal is 350 families.
A second way of showing your support is fundraising. Fundraising is really just a necessary evil as school budgets are requiring more and more cuts. Our primary objective, as a PTO, is to provide our schools with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. To meet this important objective, and afford services that are NO LONGER covered by our school budgets, we must fundraise. Though it may not be our favorite responsibility, it is a necessary one.
The 2010-2011 school year was another successful year in fundraising. With your help, we were able to provide the following to the three schools in Springville:
$ 19,500.00=PTO Workroom Expenses (i.e., copying, laminating and purchasing copier paper)
$ 3,547.96=Donation to SES, SMS and SHS for maintenance of schools
$ 2,840.00=Awards (scholarship for SHS student, honor roll awards, end of year awards)
$ 2,287.72=Donation to SES PE from Tattoo Sales and PJs for PE day
$ 2,225.54=Donation to Shoals Creek
$ 2,000.00=Donation to Margaret PTO
$ 1,200.00=Training Expense for Teachers at SHS
$ 838.87=Expenses for DARE and Red Ribbon Week
$ 742.30=8th Grade Graduation
$ 620.80=Misc Donations for teachers training expenses, & gift card appreciation to lunchroom
Aids
$ 572.00=Donation to SES Art Room
$ 500.00=Tennis Team Donation
$ 400.00=Website Fee for Springville Elementary
$ 349.80=Read-a-thon Celebration at SES
$ 189.00=Spell Bee at SMS
The PTO sponsors and contributes in so many wonderful aspects to your child's education. In order to do this, the PTO has set a fundraising goal of $40,000 this year. In the future, there will be fundraising information sent home with your child and also can be found on our website.
We need your help, and so do your children. Over 500 independent studies on parent involvement show that when parents get involved in their children’s education grades go up, test scores improve, children are more likely to attend better schools after high school, they have fewer discipline problems, and they’re less likely to use drugs and alcohol. Get involved TODAY! Sign up and become a member of the SPRINGVILLE PTO today! Please look at the PTO Membership form, indicate what events/activities interest you, and we’ll contact you to discuss it further. Or just stop by the PTO room, at SES, to see all of our volunteer opportunities! Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. We understand it is increasingly more difficult to find time to give, but please, whatever your time schedule allows, we are in need of you!
In conclusion, we are all about people working together toward a common goal. That goal, simply stated, is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work – and so can our children.
On behalf of the Springville PTO, we would once again like to extend a warm welcome and best wishes for a successful school year! Please contact any of us with questions or comments. Our phone number is 205/467-9103 and our email address is pto@springvilleelementary.org.
Sincerely,
Linda M. McCune
